A bit about Alexander M

Hello. My name is Alexander and I am a maths teacher. I also teach Russian as a foreign language. I was a full-time teacher in various secondary schools in London. I have been tutoring for about 7 years and have a good subject knowledge. I am very easy-going and always tailor my lessons to students' needs. I specialise in teaching mathematics at KS3 and KS4. I also have experience teaching AS-level mathematics. I teach Russian as a foreign language as well. I always plan lessons in such a way that they are catered to the student's current level. I am very adaptable and make sure that the student fully understands the topic. The method is important but the reason behind the method is even more important as it will help the student understand other mathematical concepts at a deeper level. It gives me great pleasure to see when a tutee understands a particular concept and is able to solve a mathematical problem. This means that my job is done well and the tutee makes a progress in attaining new knowledge. I have many various intersts outside of teaching. I very much like travelling and because of that work as a part time cabin crew for British Airways. This allows me to see many different countries and meet new cultures. Apart from that I like learning new languages. I already speak (with various degrees of succeess) seven of them. They are: Russian, Portuguese, Hebrew, French and Spanish. I also like classical music, theatre and history books. I have a BA in Modern European History from Bradford University (1st class). Also I hold an MA in Modern European History from Leeds University (Merit), a PGCE certificate in Maths and a diploma in Electrical Engineering from Riga Technical College. I usually ask the student what topic they want to improve on. I then do an assessment. Based on this I make lesson plans. I always make sure that the tutee fully understands the topic by asking probing questions and giving plenty of exercises. I started tutoring about seven years ago. I have been tutoring in various schools in London as well as giving private tution face to face and online. I like that, unlike many other subjects, mathematics gives us a precise answer (well, most of the time). I also like that a lot of mathematical knowledge can be applied to real life problems such as home budgeting, mortgage and loan calculation and many others. I believe that everyone can learn. I believe that everybody has their own pace of learning. I also believe that knowledge is power and that it enables us to lead better lives. They love that I am very easygoing and understanding. I have very good listening skills and always make sure that I understand my students' needs. I think they also like that I joke from time to time and that I do everything I can to help them with attaining new skills. I mostly teach KS3 and KS4 students and have prepared students for various exam boards such as Edexcel, AQA and OCR. I also have limited experience with preparing students for exams at AS level in mathematics. I think it was my mother who also was a teacher. Very often I would attend her lessons and saw how inspiring she was for so many students. It gives me great pleasure to see how somebody acquires new knowledge and learns new skills. It is an amazing feeling when you know that you can help someone to achieve their dreams and realise their potential. My greatest success was my Year 11 students who would come every Friday afternoon after school for additional maths lessons that I organised for them. For the whole year we went over different topics, spent hours solving various mathematical problems and prepared for the final GCSE exams. It was great to see their smiling faces when they saw their final results - all that hard work finally paid off.
