A bit about Clara

I am a 22-year-old Master’s student at University College London (UCL). I was born in France but lived in Spain for 7 years therefore I am fluent in both Spanish and French as well as English. In 2022 I completed a Bachelor in Biological Sciences at UCL and specialised in Genetics. I started tutoring both Spanish and Biology in high school while acting as a Bullying Officer by promoting responsible behaviours among students. I have also acted as a Transition Mentor in university by giving advice to new students and helping them with the course content during weekly mentoring sessions. Later on, I became a Senior Mentor which consisted in providing supervision and guidance to mentors in their department programme. I have tutored Science and Biology in high school and university as I attended a Science-specialized high school and recently completed a Bachelor in Biological Sciences. Therefore, I am comfortable teaching all levels of Biology and teaching Science and Maths at Primary/KS3/GCSE levels. Moreover, I have tutored both Spanish and French to GCSE students as I am both a native Spanish and French speaker. I am then able to tutor both languages at all levels. I believe that teaching should always be an active activity in which both parts take part. Therefore, I actively involve students in the lesson instead of passively teaching them concepts by making lessons interactive and fun. I also consider that the goal of my lessons is for students to understand the taught material and not to blindly memorise it. In that way, I want to increase the confidence of students in their ability to succeed and provide them with the tools and mindset to achieve their goals. I also consider that lessons should be accommodated to the needs and preferences of the student therefore, I always listen to what students have to say and I am open to suggestions. Additionally, I always want students to look forward to their next lesson instead of dreading it, so I consider that creating a good atmosphere and being patient with students is essential.
