A bit about Jill

Hi, I'm Jill. I'm a qualified Nursery Nurse and Primary School teacher. I have experience in tutoring both Mathematics and English, but Mathematics is my specialist subject. After I left the Nursery and Primary sector I decided to begin tutoring and haven't looked back. I have tutored 1:1 for SATs, the 11+, Functional Skills and G.C.S.E. I have also taught a Foundation G.C.S.E Mathematics class at college, and for the past few years have tutored and facilitated Mathematics with the SEND and Higher Needs learners. This was both in small groups and 1:1. I therefore have experience of working in various settings, and with students with conditions such as Autism and ADHD. Due to their needs some of my students were taught online, so I have experience of this too. I specialise in tutoring Mathematics from Primary up to Functional Skills and G.C.S.E - preferably Foundation level. I have a degree in Mathematics and Primary School teaching and recently, in 2016, re-took my Mathematics G.C.S.E obtaining a grade A*. During our sessions we will probably do a short starter task to fire up our Mathematics brain. This might be some form of quiz. We will then do a re-cap of previous learning, so as not to forget it. This will be followed by the main teaching and main learner tasks (tailored to your specific style of learning) for this session. This may well follow on from previous sessions or be a new topic, again depending upon your needs. Finally we will conclude our session by re-capping what we have learnt. I began home tutoring in 2011. This started with helping learners with their Mathematics and English SATs and 11+. I continued to work with a couple of these students throughout determination.Secondary school and helped gear them up for their G.C.S.Es. They both passed with great results with the extra help from me and more importantly their hard work and I love helping people, and I particularly love to see that 'penny drop' moment. I see Mathematics as a series of little puzzles and always tell my learners this. In this way it isn't scary and can be quite addictive! You get one piece of the jigsaw in place and then want to find the next and so on. My teaching philosophy: Just enjoy it and have fun!!!
