A bit about Tilly C

My name is Tilly and I am in my second year at Trinity College, Dublin, studying BA Spanish and ab initio German. I am fluent in Spanish and French and competent in Italian. I have over 200 hours' experience tutoring students aged 4-18, with lessons both online and in person. I also worked in a primary school for five months of my gap year, so am well acquainted with various teaching techniques. I specialise in teaching French and Spanish at all ages, for all different levels. I have always excelled academically and am keen to help other students do the same in order to help them feel happier and more comfortable at school. I am able to tutor students both online and in-person up to A Level in French and Spanish, for the AQA, Edexcel and Cambridge exam boards. I applied to Oxford University in 2020, so am happy to tutor students in UCAS or Irish CAO university applications, as well as in revision and exam technique. I have always been a very hard worker and have reaped the benefits of this attribute, so am keen to instil the same work ethic in other students, while maintaining a positive approach to learning. French, Spanish, exam and revision technique. In my lessons, I like to allocate a fair amount of time to getting to know my students, to break the ice and reduce any pressure they may feel initially. This also helps me work out the learning methods each student finds most effective, even if they do not know it yet themselves. I like to create an atmosphere which feels complete different from any school environment, focusing on the student's needs in a fun and holistic way. The teaching and lesson format follows accordingly. I first started tutoring when I was 17, but have done the majority of my tutoring in the past year. I love the satisfaction I feel when something I have taught clicks in a student's head, showing they really understand a concept. The confidence which grows from this understanding is then exemplified in practice questions or quizzes which follow. I have a holistic, fun, lighthearted teaching style, whereby the students control and dictate what they want to learn, and I tailor my teaching to their needs and learning tendencies. My favourite thing about being a tutor is seeing how each student's mind works, and helping them to navigate this so they may reap the rewards in the long-term, both in and out of the classroom. Learning comes first and exams come second. The lighthearted nature of the lessons, turning them from something they may not have wanted to spend their free time doing, into something they enjoy and look forward to. Helping students raised speaking no English, to learn English and learn further subjects through this. The rewarding part of this success was seeing the confidence gained throughout, which was what influenced the students' learning abilities. DBS Check A Level - Maths (A), French (A*), Spanish (A*) GCSE - 10 x 9 (A**) Enjoying academics myself, and wanting to help students who typically struggle at school to feel the same.
