A bit about Claire D

Teaching English can be fun! I love creativity, imagination and how it is possible to escape into another world when reading. Reading allows us to feel less alone and makes us understanding that throughout history and across cultures, we are connected. I enjoy the philosophical discussions which can arise when teaching English. I enjoy putting students in the shoes of the writer. To recognise how one carefully selected word can create meaning for the reader. How one carefully constructed sentence can affect mood and tone. I am a published writer so use my own talent to support students in writing more creatively and to understand the creative process. After teaching in the UK for seven years, I taught in top International schools in South East Asia for fourteen years. I have a vast amount of experience in helping students achieve their potential. I have taught a variety of year groups across numerous exam boards including Edexcel and Cambridge. I am experienced in teaching KS3, IGCSE, A Level and IB. I, also, have experience in teaching EAL. I have taught A Level Media Studies for fourteen years and have been an assessment specialist for a national examine board. I am a friendly and approachable tutor. I have taught a wide range of students with varied abilities, and I can adapt my teaching style to suit the needs of the student. I try to ensure that my teaching style provides challenge, but is also achievable. I have high expectations of my students, and ensure that they all reach their potential. I try to use a variety of resources to keep the student engaged in their learning.
