A bit about Baoji L

Hi! My name is Baoji. I'm originally from Melbourne, Australia, and I am currently studying for a BA (Hons.) Economics at the University of Cambridge. I graduated from high school in 2019 and was fortunate enough to rank within the top 0.05% in Australia, ranking highly in all my subjects (English, Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Chinese and Latin). I have been tutoring maths and english since then, with experience teaching all year levels. I specialise in tutoring mathematics, which is heavily involved in my course at university. I have had a keen interest in mathematics for as long as I can remember and I aim to recreate that same sense of wonderment in my lessons. I have had experience teaching mathematics at all levels, from upper primary all the way to A-Level (or VCE as it's known in Melbourne). Before any lessons begin, I will organise an opportunity to get to know the student (and parents) and formulate a plan based on the aims of the student. During lessons, we will first address problems that the student has faced in their homework and schoolwork, in order to reconsolidate knowledge acquired in previous sessions. From there, the lesson will flow according to the goals and aims of the individual student. This may involve covering unfamiliar, extension material, or going through concepts that were explained at school but perhaps not fully grasped. There will always be time at the end to go through any questions that the student still has, in addition to a reasonable amount of homework set. Students are encouraged to stop the session at any time, for any amount of time until they understand everything. There are two things I love seeing as a maths tutor. The first, the look on students' faces when they experience an "a-ha!" moment. That could be when they finally understand a complex concept, or when they spot a way to attack a previously impenetrable concept. I also love building genuine rapport with students. I enjoy seeing them make gennuine progress, whether that be in terms of personal confidence or test results. Maths is often seen as a "get it or you don't" subject, but I firmly believe it is accessible to everyone, as long as the subject is approached in a personalised fashion. Beyond the classroom, I'm a massive collector of electronics. I love playing to video-games, listening to music (anything from Kendrick Lamar to Tchaikovsky). I enjoy hiking and camping and taking time where I can to read up about economics, especially its sociological and historical aspects.
