A bit about Lilli

Hi, I’m Lilli and I’m a university student. I study psychology, with the hopes of becoming a psychotherapist, and I’ve just finished a year of studying English Literature, French and Italian at degree level so I am fluent in French and I am at A-Level standard in Italian. I have 4 years tutoring experience with students aged between 6-18 and it is something I thoroughly enjoy. I’m highly organised and will strive to tailor all lesson plans specifically to each student and their learning needs. My lesson plans are always dependent on the student. For our first lesson, I will spend the first 10-20minutes introducing myself and asking about the student and about the subjects they are most and least confident in, and why. This is also a great time for students to ask about me as a first tutor meeting can be quite intimidating. After that, we will focus on one small area to keep any nerves at bay for the student and also to allow me to understand their learning style, so I can plan the next lesson more specifically. I first started tutoring when I was in Year 12, aged 16. It was a volunteer position at my school to help younger students who struggled in confidence in their English classes and needed a bit of extra guidance. I then expanded to tutoring French and History, specifically British and Russian history, as well which was great and I was so pleased to see my students’ individual progress when exams came around. As you can probably tell, I love my essay subjects. I love tutoring English because it is so subjective; I can look at a piece of writing and take a completely different meaning away from it than the next person. This means that it is always exciting, as it leaves room for students to debate and share their opinions with me and nobody is ever really ‘wrong’ about it. As for languages, I love tutoring them because I think they are essential in our world today and there are countless ways to learn them, which I think makes them super interesting to teach and learn. I believe languages are the building blocks for effective communication, especially in business, so they can help in any career. Finally, with history, once you have studied enough of it, you’ll notice the patterns. The saying ‘history always repeats itself’ is not just a cliché, it’s actually true. I love when students begin to pick up on this so we can talk about the ironic beauty of hindsight.
