A bit about Alicia O

I am an avid believer in the following Nelson Mandela quote, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. I have taught informally and voluntarily from primary to tertiary levels – my love and commitment to teaching and tutoring has enhanced my knowledge and fuelled my enthusiasm. Throughout my teaching career I have learnt the importance of how to communicate with students so that they get the best out of their learning sessions. I am familiar with both the AQA and OCR curriculum for secondary schools and the primary school curriculum. I treat each student as an individual and work ardently at identifying their strengths and weaknesses in the subject area of study so that the student can be helped accordingly. In addition, throughout my university years, I facilitated sessions for students who struggled with understanding some aspects of the curriculum and lacked the enthusiasm to commit to their studies. While studying I developed excellent time management skills, patience, and adaptability. My undergraduate degree in Economics and Applied Computing has widened my scope of understanding in human and behavioural economics, language, and the importance of development - characteristics that I believe are essential for a successful teaching career. Students need teachers who are there for them - people who communicate, connect with, spend time, and show a genuine interest in them. I wish to use my time to empower students to reach their full potential. More importantly, I desire to enrich their inquiring minds by motivating them to make their own positive impact on the world through sharing my skills of responsive thinking, sensitivity, patience, enthusiasm, and a "can do" mentality. The experiences I have had have highlighted that that the responsibilities of a teacher do not end when the school day or a tutoring session end. Although teaching carries with it extensive and sometimes exhausting challenges, the rewards far outweigh the negatives. For this and other reasons I look forward to being able to contribute to your growth and development as a student. I am ready to empower you since education has been the greatest engine of my personal growth and development. I have great subject knowledge in my areas of specialism, and I am committed to making an impact and a difference in the life of any student who comes my way. Economics Business Studies Computer Science 11+ Maths, English, Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning ESOL Tutoring is a flexible, rewarding and interesting job where I can make a positive difference. When it comes down to it, the feeling of being able to successfully teach a student something (and having them retain, practice, and eventually master that concept) is an incredibly rewarding experience for me. I am a qualified secondary school Computer Science teacher with a first degree in Economics and Applied Computing (BSc) and two masters degrees in Banking (MSc) and Education (MA)
