A bit about Aisha R

Hi! My name is Aisha and I currently attend the University of Birmingham studying Business Management and Marketing. I currently teach AQA, Edexcel, Pearson and Wjec through GCSE to A-level. My specialties include any English essay-based subject that involves a higher level of writing. I studied English Literature, English Language, Sociology, and Business studies at A-Level gaining A,A,B,B respectively. I am a very easy-going person yet dedicated individual and create an environment where the tutoree can excel by making mistakes and actively understanding where they went wrong and working on it. I look forward to meeting you and being part of your academic journey :) I specialise in any English-based subject ranging from both English Literature and Language to Religious studies and sociology (from GCSE up to A-level). As I have recently undertaken my A-Levels in just the last year I am acquainted with the curriculum and exam board expectations. During our first session, I will work with the student and see where they stand in their knowledge of the content of their exam board. After that discussion has taken place I would find out what topics they are strongest and weakest in and then go over the topic they are strongest in a quiz-style way, ensuring they are secure in their knowledge. Any gaps I would make a note of and add it to the quiz I would do at the start of each session over topics they feel strongly about to ensure their memory is constantly refreshed. Then I would go over the content that they need help with and set them a timetable in preparation for their exam that would cover all topics in time. Depending on the subject, I would go through their past answers and mark them showing where they hit the Assessment objectives successfully, and then work together to create an exemplar essay that they can go back to and help guild them through future answers. Previously I have tutored private 1:1 sessions with kids from the secondary school that I attended and from referrals from family friends. Through these sessions, I worked with them and went through previous essay questions that they completed; drawing out points of improvement and then rewriting exemplar essays with the improvements. I completed these sessions in person and online through covid as I wanted to ensure they had continued to develop their skills. I taught from GCSE level to A-level in my set subjects (English Literature, Sociology, English Language, Business Studies, Religious studies, and maths). In addition to this, I tutored online with my university helping students in the subjects of English Language and Literature at an A-Level level. We consistently worked throughout the year through our sessions going over the required content in preparation for their exams. My teaching style revolves around creating a support system for the individual that will help them to gain confidence in tackling questions. With most kids, I've tutored I've seen a confidence issue in tackling questions that are a step above their working grade so I try to create an environment where we can work on these harder questions by letting them make mistakes and patiently working through them. Attempting harder questions aids their educational confidence and ability and helps them to comprehend more complex questions and in turn, helps improve their grade. On average with my students, i have seen an average of a 2-grade rise beyond their school expected grade. I currently teach AQA, Edexcel, Pearson and Wjec through GCSE to A-level. I make sure to communicate before the first session begins to find out the exam board and then appropriately acquaint myself with it. I have been acquainted with AQA, Edexcel, Wjec, and Pearson's curriculum for the last 3 years as I have tutored kids on these boards. Then having completed my a-levels in these boards just last year too. English-based subjects are my favorite because they allow for so much intellectual freedom and speech! From having your own interpretations about something that are completely different from your classmates; it is always interesting to see where people take their intellectual explorations! Mistakes get you one step closer to getting it right!
