A bit about Helen T

With 35 years of experience teaching English, I can help you improve if you are working towards GCSE, A level, or university English (undergraduate and postgraduate). I can help you understand and write about different works of literature - from Macbeth to Derrida and everything in between. As an external literature examiner for IB for the last 10 years, I can also help you with IB English. I can tutor all levels of English language and literature from KS3, GCSE, IB, A level to undergraduate and postgraduate English language and literature. My sessions are interactive and reinforce what you are learning in school or uni. I plan the session to meet the individual needs of my students, and will work with teachers, if needed, to ensure that the student is receiving the most appropriate support. I have been tutoring for 35 years, alongside teaching and lecturing. I have lots of experience and creative resources to help you. I love to see my students improve and succeed to move forward with their career goals. If I can be a small part in a student's journey to success, then I have done my job! I am friendly and relaxed, dedicated to helping you improve your skills. I love working with students in small groups or 1:1 because I know I can make a difference. I am student-centred and make sure all that we go is designed specifically for each student. I have a corny sense of humour. I have many examples to choose from over the years. One of my more recent successes is seeing a young man who was told he would never pass GCSE English earn a grade 6. I have a PhD in English, a PGCE (LLS) and QTLS I love English and I wanted to share my life if language and literature with young people. I go in regular rambles to look at birds and other wildlife. Thanks to the Great British Sewing Bee, I have pulled my sewing machine out of storage. I teach students from secondary age to adult. I have experience with AQA, Edexcel, NCFE, OCR, City and Guilds among others.
