A bit about Mark K

I am a highly qualified teacher of RS with both a Bachelor's (First Class) and two Master's degrees in my subject area. I am a qualified teacher with significant experience of classroom teaching (AQA, OCR and Eduqas), tutoring and examining. Students love my passionate engagement with them. I love debate and discussion. I am interested in their views. I open up complex ideas in a fun and engaging way. I care about my students, and this is clearly evident in my engagement with them. The way that I can engage with students, ensuring that they achieve their maximum potential. It is great to see their success as they become independent learners. I specialise in Religious Studies. I can teach a range of religious traditions at GCSE: Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, Islam. At A level, I have taught papers in Philosophy, Ethics, Christianity and Buddhism. I am also a keen debater and can offer debating and public speaking help. I try to engage with my student a great deal. Trying to consolidate their knowledge and skills. There is a lot of one to one questioning and dialogue. I try to ensure that my students get as much examination practice as possible with feedback from me. There will be moments of fun, discussion and debate. I love thinking about the big questions. I love to hear the opinions of others, and reflect on what I think in the light of them. There is so much that we do not know, and I like to boldly go where no one has gone before - philosophically, ethically and religiously!! My teaching style is one of questioning. I like to push and provoke my students. I love conversation, debate and discussion. I hope my students find that I open up complex ideas, and engage with them in a caring way. I try also to create an academic seriousness while being fun. My teaching philosophy is Socratic. I am a questioner and I love being questioned. I believe people have great potential. I come from a very ordinary background and managed to get a place at Oxford, and have had a great career subsequently. My greatest success I have had as a teacher is seeing many students achieve their highest academic potential at both GCSE and A level. I have seen a number of my students, as a result, go onto the best universities in the world. I love learning and I love communicating that love to others. I have taught all year groups. I have taught OCR for GCSE and A Level. I have taught AQA for GCSE and Eduqas for A level.
