A bit about Michelle O

I am a qualified maths teacher, I have taught up to A level, so I have a thorough understanding of the curriculum. I have experience tutoring in mathematics for KS1, KS3 and KS4. Therefore, I have experience supporting students that need extra help and stretching and challenging students. I have experience working with students with additional educational needs, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia. In my role a deputy head of year, I had the opportunity to care for students pastorally ensuring, their mental, physical and emotional well being was prioritised. This is something I currently still embed in my tutoring role. I use a diagnostic approach to tutoring preferring to asses areas and tailoring the tutoring session to my tutee. I come prepared with exam style questions and worksheets. I also focus on ensuring that I am assessing progress throughout my sessions that there is evidence of progress being made for the students. This will enable me to move on harder style problem solving that will get them use to the exam style questions so it is not a shock when they do their exams I started tutoring 7 years ago and since then I have tutored over 500 hours to a wide range of students. Therefore, I ca confidently say I am an experienced tutor. I have tutored students in the comprehensive, independent, and selective school systems. I also have extensive experience in the home education field. I believe in putting the child at the centre of my teaching practice. Young people are unique and often times have preferred ways of learning and responding to new content. I am aim to learn as much as I can about the child to ensure they make the most amount of progress in their time with me. I also am very interested education research so I aim to make sure that I embed things such as retrieval practice and deliberate practice in my tutorials. I am a life long learner and so I am constantly learning new things. I have been a semi professional photographer, a caterer, a dressmaker and more recently I have become more interested in learning about the field of software engineering.
