A bit about Charles B

I am a Head of History at an independent school near Cambridge. I love helping my pupils excel at achieving their academic goals and do this by building confidence and supporting them carefully on their academic journey. I specialise in preparing pupils on A Level, IB, and (I)GCSE exam courses; this involves honing their subject knowledge, providing intensive exam writing practice with past papers and giving detailed and precise feedback to fully enhance their level of performance. Lessons usually revolve around specific exam questions; firstly considering what subject knowledge to apply, then how to apply it using effective exam technique. Finally, precise feedback is given so that my pupils know exactly what they have done well and where there is still room for improvement. I began about 14 years ago. I have always helped my pupils reach their academic potential and exceed in what they believed they were capable of achieving. I love not only the subject content but also, and perhaps more importantly, watching my pupils perform at a level they hadn't previously believed they were capable of. This is transformative in terms of building self-confidence in young people and is hugely satisfying! I encourage active participation as much as possible. I am a good communicator and always really supportive of my tutees, helping to build their confidence in what they are trying to achieve. This means I always develop an excellent professional relationship with them. Seeing my pupils make progress and grow on their academic journey. Always have high expectations of my pupils. Help them to believe in their true potential. The level of support that is given to them and my approachability. Getting A*/A grades with every pupil I have tutored.
