A bit about Jerome B

About me: When my primary school teacher asked “Where do you see yourself in the future”, my answer always pertained to teaching. Raised in a disadvantaged area of South London, I have been able overcome the expectations and assumptions of this demographic to pursue my childhood aspirations. I started my career within education as a Learning Support Assistant, and have taught professionally for the last 5 years. Progress is a process, learning is forever.

Education

  • University of Hertfordshire (2010-2013) - BA (Hons) English Language and Communication with English Language Teaching
  • University College London - Institute of Education (2016-2017) - PGCE English with SCITT

Experience

It is my belief that English is the cornerstone of education. It is the foundation of learning and provides access to all other areas of the curriculum. Success in English determines a higher proficiency in other subjects, with particular reference to literacy and oracy.

I am an experienced teacher and tutor of over 5 years. I have tutored students of different levels with a range of needs and abilities and have also been an examiner for the AQA exam board, so have a sound knowledge of the skills required to succeed in English.

My career thus far in education encompasses experience within over 5 institutions, all with a different ethos, approach to pedagogy and policies with regards to lesson content and behaviour management. As a result, I have acquired many valuable strategies to ensure that the learning that happens within the classroom is relevant, engaging and relatable to students, often using real life examples to support this.
