A bit about Luca M

I believe that a problem solving based approach where I guide students to answers by asking specific questions to make them think and generate their own ideas is a great way to quickly deepen their understanding and is essential to helping them take in and remember information. If a student doesn’t understand something I see it as a challenge for me to be able to explain the same thing in a different way until I can find the right thing for them and the feeling of it finally clicking with them is unmatched for both parties. I have always had a deep passion for mathematics, especially teaching and helping others to understand mathematics with the hope that I can get them to enjoy the subject as much as me. I find that enjoyment of mathematics goes hand in hand with understanding it and I believe that everyone is able to have a deep understanding of the subject if it is explained in a way that they can understand. This varies between students and I enjoy finding the best teaching method for each student. In my degree I took teaching courses that focused on strategies to teach each of algebra, geometry, statistics, and mathematics in general give me a wide range of tools and ideas to teach a concept in multiple ways to find the best one for a student to understand. 4 A* for A-levels in maths, further maths, chemistry and physics (it felt a lot like just taking quadruple maths!). I also got an A* in GCSE maths and an A in additional maths. I achieved a BSc with my final year courses including developing geometric, algebraic, statistical and mathematic thinking which were very eye opening and supplied me with lots of teaching tools. I have been tutoring mathematics for over 10 years to a wide variety of ages (5-40+) and levels (primary to A-level). For revision lessons a question is presented and then discussed, either from a specific topic or past papers. If there is difficulty or gaps of knowledge then those are filled in and more questions are made up to check and strengthen that knowledge. If there is no issue with the question then I use harder questions to push the student to see how far they can go and how deep their understanding is. For lessons where a new topic is being learnt, I introduce and explain the topic usually from first principles whilst asking questions and expanding the topic from that.
