A bit about Nicola

I am an English teacher and have a lot of experience in teaching young people with additional support needs, so I am able to tailor sessions to your needs. I qualified as a teacher in 2009, 13 years ago. I am a qualified English teacher, qualifying in Scotland in 2009. I have worked in Scotland for my whole career so I have taught up to NQ and Higher level, equivalent to GCSE and A level. I have assessed for the SQA and done standardised assessments in Curriculum for Excellence. I am originally from Yorkshire and went to school there so I know the English curriculum and assessment system well. I love reading a range of literature, both fiction and non-fiction. I enjoy reading and writing poetry in my spare time as well as doing yoga and wild swimming. I am currently taking a break from teaching and doing further training, so it will be great to keep my skills up to date by tutoring. I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE): a Scottish qualification which qualifies me to be a secondary English teacher. I also have a BA Degree specialising in English literature. I'm very organised so I always do a lot of preparation before lessons to make sure that we can make good use of every minute we have together. I make sure that the lesson is well paced to meet your needs, giving you the time you need to think things over for yourself and ask questions if you need to. I am calm and caring, taking an interest in my students and what they are motivated by. I tailor lessons to their individual needs and listen carefully to what helps them learn best. I like to use humour and change things up during classes so that students stay engaged and on task.
