A bit about Luise

Hi there, I'm Luise! I am a fully qualified English teacher with over 5 years of experience teaching and tutoring mixed ability, SEND and EAL students in secondary schools. I have a specialist knowledge of Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, An Inspector Calls and Animal Farm; as well as AQA English Language Paper 1 and 2. I have valuable experience teaching A-Level English Literature and a specialist knowledge of William Blake, The Kite Runner and The Handmaid's Tale as well as Feminist Literature. I have a BA (Hons) First Degree in English Literature and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from The University of Leeds. I specialise in teaching and assessing to the AQA English Literature and Language exam specification with a specialist knowledge of Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, An Inspector Calls and Animal Farm. I have a secured experience supporting SEND and EAL students to access GCSE content, as well as top set students reach top end targets. My experience as an A-Level English Literature tutor means that I have a secured, specialist knowledge of teaching Othello, The Kite Runner, The Handmaid's Tale and William Blake to the AQA specification with a track record of exceptional outcomes. I can offer support with GCSE skills, language analysis, exam preparation and essay writing practice. I can also offer support with conversational English and language skills. The lessons will be fully tailored to meet your individual needs and ensure you feel confident and positive about learning. Our lessons will be responsive and I will plan in the best way for you to learn (which is different for everyone). We'll start by getting to know your needs and areas to work on and plan sessions to build up your strength. I have a range of work booklets, resources, exam revision booklets, past papers, real examples and answers that we can utilise and go through together. We'll create targets and goals to keep improving your confidence and understanding of English to ensure you thrive and reach your target grade...if not higher! I first started tutoring alongside studying my English Literature degree in 2015. I supported students with literacy and GCSE reading and comprehension skills. Moving from there, I took a role as an English Intervention Support Worker at a high school; tutoring 1-1 for students with SEND and English as An Additional Language (EAL). I helped improve their confidence and outcomes in areas of GCSE English Literature and Language - even translating Macbeth to support students understanding! Moving forward, I secured a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Qualified Teaching Status from The University of Leeds and began teaching as a Qualified Secondary Teacher. Helping students thrive in English is my passion and I know that I can help you love the subject just as much as I do! My favourite thing about being a tutor is seeing how much my students grow with their confidence and become exceptional learners! For me, there is nothing more rewarding than being a part of a success story and witnessing the moment a student receives their grade; realising that all their hard work was worth it. In my classroom, getting to know my students is key to helping them flourish. I take the time to get to know my students, their strengths and areas for development, preferred learning styles and help them set and achieve goals. There is no limit to what can be achieved with the right support! My classroom is a positive space; there is no such thing as a silly question and I encourage my students to make mistakes. I am patient, understanding and compassionate. My SEND students tell me that before having me as a teacher, they would never put their hand up in class but now are happy to take part in class discussions and debate! My classroom is a space for sharing knowledge, discussing topics and making sense of complex ideas without fear of judgement. My students have learned to expect my infectious enthusiasm for English, engaging and challenging lessons and guidance to help them immerse themselves in a fantastic subject. Fully qualified teacher of secondary English with a PGCE and QTS from The University of Leeds BA Hons Degree in English Literature (First Class) from Leeds Beckett University A Levels in English Literature, English Language and Media Studies
