A bit about Naomi B

I have a BA Hons in European Studies (Economics) and an MA in International Conflict Analysis from the University of Kent at Canterbury. I had the most amazing time at university - including a year abroad in Switzerland - and was gradually persuaded that my future lay in education, so went on to complete a PGCE in Economics and Business Education at the Institute of Education in London in 1991/92 and have been involved in business and economics education ever since. I have taught a range of academic and vocational courses in schools and sixth form colleges across the UK. I have also worked as an examiner for A level Business Studies and written a wide range of teaching and learning resources for a number of UK publishers, including Hodder Education and Anforme. I am comfortable teaching all of the key areas of the business curriculum, including finance, human resources, marketing, corporate strategy and the influence on business of the wider economic and political environment. I have researched and written a number of case studies on business start-ups and growth, including Tyrrells, Innocent and First Direct. I am currently completing an MSc in Sustainable Development and would really enjoy tutoring in this particular area. Lesson structure depends to a large extent on the needs of the individual student, so lesson design needs to include a degree of flexibility. Typically, a lesson would begin with a short activity to put the student at ease and assess their existing knowledge. It should also flow logically from any previous learning. The lesson should end with a recap activity to consolidate learning and signpost the next step(s). What happens in between depends on the topic, but the focus should always be on the student. I starting tutoring after I'd been teaching for around ten years and had been an examiner for A level Business for three years. At this point, not only had I developed an in-depth understanding of the various concepts and theories, but I also felt that I had a clear understanding of the skills needed in order to perform effectively in exams and how to assist students in developing them.
