A bit about Fatema A

I have obtained a Bachelors and Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences. Working as a science technician at a school, I took a liking to working among young pupils. As a passionate scientist, I embarked upon teacher's training in secondary science and have since helped my students improve their knowledge and scientific skills as well as implement a variety of revision skills to obtain the best outcomes. Among my Year 12 cohort, I have helped roughly 70% of my students move up a grade between two mock exams. I am sure this progress will be reflected in their AS and A2 exams too. If you are struggling with maths or any of the sciences, look no further! The hourly rate shown on my profile is for KS3 and Primary level tuition only. If you are interested in getting tutored at KS4 (GCSE), KS5 (A Level/BTEC) or degree level, my rates will be as follows: KS4: £30 KS5: £33 Degree level: £37 I hold a bachelor's and master's degree in Biomedical Science and have recently obtained QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). I really enjoy reading novels, swimming, playing badminton and watching psychological thriller shows! I first started tutoring in January 2020. When the first lock-down hit, tutoring continued online but it never stopped! Starting with KS1 and KS2 mathematics, I soon widened my portfolio and branched into science tutoring as that was my specialty as well as GCSE mathematics. My passion for imparting knowledge and skills grew and led me to pursue teaching at a secondary school. I currently teach years 7-12. For GCSE students, I am on the Edexcel exam board and for A-Level, I am on the OCR exam board. I started working with children since my university days. Being a part-time nursery practitioner introduced me to working around a complete age group to myself. Further down the line, becoming a science technician gave me an insight into a school environment, which further led me to explore teaching opportunities. My favorite part about science is that it is ever-changing! And with that change, we educate our students and ourselves simultaneously as we marvel the scientific creations around us. It also helps students appreciate just how surrounded we are by science. This links to my teaching philosophy. The most successful lessons I have had are ones where the students conduct independent learning in the form of research, poster-making, making models and even leading a revision session! My two biggest successes are as follows: 1. In one of my biology lessons with a triple science Y10 class, I made them design a poster on the work of the scientist Gregor Mendel. That topic had strong cross-curricular links with History so I let them do research on laptops and put their posters up on my bulletin. 2. During a Y11 revision sessions, I let a student become the 'teacher' for half the lesson and I was amazed to see not only how much content that 'teacher' knew, but also their peers! I became a student for those 30 minutes and asked various questions too. I want the lesson to be as student-led as possible. Let the students explore and critically think in your lesson and let yourself be their guide and scaffolder rather than you spoon-feeding them the content.
