A bit about Joel P

I tutored Latin in my undergraduate degree and worked as an editor for an academic Journal (Broadstreet Humanities review). Starting this spring, I will work as a tutor of Historiography at Worcester College, University of Oxford. I have a Bachelor's degree in History and English (University of Heidelberg, grade: first class), a Master's degree in Greek and Roman History (University of Oxford, Grade: Distinction) and am currently doing my DPhil (doctoral research, still at the University of Oxford). Outside of my degree work, I have worked as a research assistant, private tutor, and university tutor. I believe it is most important to meet the individual needs of students. That being said, I generally aim to provide a structured but lighthearted teaching atmosphere to my lessons. I have found that tutoring works best when all involved look at it as an opportunity for development rather than a chore. I believe a good tutor is one who does not just teach a specific subject but also strategies to sustainably improve learning goals in the long run. I teach my students exactly such strategies.
