A bit about Adam M

Hi there! My name is Adam and I've been teaching for six years now, four of which I've spent as Head of Humanities in a challenging context. I've taught both Geography and History to GCSE level and am an AQA Geography GCSE examiner. I also read Mandarin Chinese at university level so can offer assisstance to any budding linguists. I'm an avid traveller and love to impart various bits of knowledge that I've picked up about the places that I've visited! I specialise in Geography and History, having taught both to GCSE level and have examined for AQA's Geography GCSE. I am equally competent at teaching physical and human geography and taught British history from the early medieval period to the 20th century. Finally, I also read Mandarin Chinese at university (which included living in both Mainland China and Taiwan) so am able to offer tutoring in that as well. My time in secondary teaching has seen me deliver successful outcomes for pupils across a range of abilities and including those with SEN and EAL. I cater my lessons to whatever gaps the pupil(s) in question need addressing. My lesson plans are very ordered, with clear explanations of complex subject matter and relevant, structured written tasks. Furthermore, I have extensive experience teaching pupils with a range of special education needs and am able to adapt to those where necessary. I worked as a tutor while studying as an undergraduate, where I tutored in English as a foreign language and A-Levels in History and Economics. Following my graduation, I trained as a full-time secondary teacher through Teach First. A-Levels in Geography, History, Economics and French (A*, A*, A, A) BA Chinese and History, SOAS (First Class Honours) PGCE, Canterbury Christ Church University- Secondary Geography MA International Politics in East Asia, Warwick (Distinction) I have taught Years 7-13 but specialise in KS3 and KS4. I am a very experienced teacher of the AQA GCSE Geography specification and am also an examiner for the board. In addition, I have taught Edexcel's GCSE History specification. Being a Geography teacher, I love travelling abroad and practising foreign languages. I also read widely about history, economics and politics and try to balance that with regular gym sessions. Helping pupils make sense of the world and how history and geographical processes affect their daily lives. Clear and friendly but with high expectations from my pupils. Turning around a failing humanities department and seeing pupils enthusiastic about taking my subjects to GCSE, A-Level and even degree level!
