A bit about Ashwin P

I have been teaching for 27 years as a Science teacher with 4 years as an AST (Advanced skilled Teacher). An 'Outstanding' practitioner in school and mentor for PGCE and Teach-first learners. I consistently achieved excellent GCSE results. I have tutored students for 7 years both one to one and as small groups with excellent students feedback. I think it is crucial to relating scientific concepts to everyday life experience so the science makes sense and generates engagement. Teaching is a unique vocation. It is the mechanism that interest, engages and inspires the next generation. There is nothing better than hearing and seeing the 'oh yeah' when a student finally gets it and understands how the science works and helps to explain how something works. The influence of a teacher is invaluable. It can be a major factor in influencing the pathway a young person takes. Everyone remembers a good teacher. I am quite an active person. I go to yoga classes. This has help with flexibility, core strength and mental wellbeing. I have now played club cricket for over 30 years and club secretary for over 15 years. I am also an ECB Level 2 coach helping to run All Stars and Dynamo cricket at the club. I also enjoy keep fit classes and enjoy walking. I have an interest in Bush craft and traditional skills. I hope to go on a course in the near future. These skills fascinate me and the link to Science. I also enjoy travelling when possible and seeing the World. Start of the lesson recaps the previous learning and dovetails into the current lesson. The main part of the lesson delves into the learning and is made as applicable as possible to everyday life with a variety of activities eg Activity sheets, Text books, You tube, Animations, T&L activity, mini plenaries etc.. The final part is where the student must demonstrate what they have learned using mini tests, past paper questions, SAT qus etc.
