Sherpa's Summary

Ińigo is a passionate and engaging Maths and Physics tutor who is looking forward to meeting his students. He aims to understand where the student is struggling and maximise their knowledge in this topic area.

A bit about Iñigo

I specialize in physics, in particular cosmology (Master's level). However, I can deliver lessons in other areas such as mathematics and science in general (up to year 9 level for biology, year 11 chemistry, and year 13 physics). 3 years ago, started tutoring family members while still in uni. I eventually branched out to external students when I finished my degree. I am a very curious person, I like to learn about science and also spread that knowledge and enthusiasm. I am diligent and responsible, I will always make sure my work is done on time, especially if another person depends on it (which is the case in tutoring). First I make an assessment of the material that the student is doing in school/college/university. Then I try to clarify any concepts that the person may not have understood in class, and finally, cover some exercises with them. This is always the greatest part of the lesson. I really think doing exercises is the most important part, so I try to do as many as possible with the students, always asking them questions and seeing what their mental processes are. I put emphasis on the students applying critical thinking since this is always the key to mathematics and science. I love the subject itself, so I really enjoy talking about the topics. Spreading knowledge and possibly enthusiasm about maths or science is extremely fulfilling for me. I really like the feeling when someone finally understands how to solve a problem thanks to me, since it means they have acquired a new skill. I get to focus all my energy on that single student, so I can cover exactly the gaps in their understanding. In comparison with a full class of pupils, it is preferable because there is less uncertainty about the speed of the teaching since I must adapt to whatever speed is needed by the student in particular. I will spend as much time as possible explaining a concept, in proportion to its importance with respect to the rest of the material. In other words, I adapt to the student's learning pace, but I know how to prioritize the important information and problem types. I believe they like how patient I am and how I guide them to the correct answer. They enjoy this because I do not tell them the answer, but rather help them get there by themselves. I try to make them feel like they can do the problems also when I am not there. There was this kid I was tutoring who had just failed an end-of-term test and after 3 tutoring sessions with me, he passed the retake of that same paper. I am a master of physics with 1st class honors in theoretical physics. I do not possess any teaching qualifications but have done an internship in a secondary education school as a teacher's assistant. I also speak fluent Spanish and B1 level French I saw how fulfilling it was to help people understand complicated concepts when these were explained with simpler words and thought that this could apply to science in general. I love solving problems, so helping someone learn how to do that is exciting Reading (fiction, science, and anthropology), sports (bouldering, volleyball, basketball), video editing (I have a youtube video on maths that I filmed and edited myself), also playing chess and videogames. I can teach mathematics and physics to any level up until the first year of university (preference for secondary education, A-levels, and university). Can teach general science until year 9. Can teach chemistry up until year 10 or 11.
