A bit about Arianna G

My lessons are always warm and friendly with a calm atmosphere that is conducive to learning. I use lesson slides that I have prepared, which are easy to follow and have images and examples to help understand, as well as written explanations- this is so that all types of learners can engage and understand the material. Usually, the second half of the lesson we go through practice exam questions (for GCSE students), or orally quiz them through discussion and try to get them thinking and linking information they know. If a student is struggling with a topic we will go back over it before moving on to the next topic as it can be overwhelming does not aid their learning to move on without feeling confident in a topic. Lessons are adapted depending on a student's ability and needs. I use a lot of encouragement and confidence boosting as this plays a huge role in a student’s ability in a subject. If the student has any specific learning difficulties or requirements I always take this into consideration when planning the lessons. I always try to begin a lesson with a friendly 2 minute chat just to get to know students better and make them at ease in the lesson space. I am a friendly and warm person who respects others and encourages others to reach their potential. I have always loved learning, studying and exploring nature- which is where my love for science began. My curiosity and love for the outdoors not only taught me a lot about ecology and biology, but also acted as an open classroom to teach or ask questions about the other sciences and how they are all interconnected. I am well-traveled, open-minded and politically and socially engaged. First Class degree in Zoology, from Queen Mary University of London. Modules included: ecology, genetics, marine biology, parasites and infectious disease, reproductive biology, physiology and many more. I also took IB Biology and triple science at GCSE level, where I got an A in all three. I know that many students can find science overwhelming and tricky, so the best part about teaching this subject is when a student feels comfortable and encouraged and discovers it's not as complex as they might have first thought, and are able to leave the lesson satisfied that they've understood a topic. The other wonderful thing is how much science is involved with out every day lives, and once a student realises this and becomes curious they can really enjoy the topic. I had one KS3 student who went away from our lesson and decided to conduct her own experiment on plant growth and sunlight, which she was very excited about, and was even happier that she could come back and tell me exactly what her findings were and -linking it to the science we'd learnt- why.
