A bit about Ange J

I am a Higher Level Teaching assistant based in the SEN department in a Secondary school and have a specialism in Maths, particularly GCSE. I am currently leading maths intervention groups via the National Tutoring programme I have been a private tutor for over 14 years and pride myself in my excellent record of helping and supporting students reach their target grade or above. I specialise in Mathematics, particularly GCSE level I first started tutoring 15 years ago. I love helping students realise that Maths can be a subject that can be enjoyed. Confidence and self belief can be a huge learning barrier and once I can help them overcome these, the results they achieve speak for themselves. I teach in a very relaxed and friendly style. Rather than giving the students the answers to problems, I guide their thinking in a direction to help them answer their own question( which in itself is an exam technique)....' think, what do you know from the question and your own knowledge and it can, and will, help you get to what you don't know' I teach using a variety of methods ranging from GCSE style questions to personalised work. I have an interactive white board which enables me to screen share with my students enhancing their learning experience to the full. I love getting to know the students on a more personal level. From this you gain an insight into their interests which then helps you learn their preferred learning style. Helping students achieve the goals they have and to aspire to their full potential is something I love to see. My students like the approach I take in my tutoring as it is very relaxed. As I have worked with many different teachers over my 16 years in a secondary setting I have knowledge of various learning styles. If one way doesn't work for a particular student I will strive to find a way that does suit their method of learning. I have had many successes in my teaching.....far too many to list all, but, one of my best ones have been a young lady who was in the lowest set Maths set at her school and had been written off by her teacher! She wanted to be a midwife and was desperate to get her Maths GCSE. I worked with her for a year and not only was she the only student to pass in her group, she went on to reach her goal and is now a fully qualified Mid wife. Another very similar case was a young lady who was targeted a 4 at GCSE. She wanted to be a psychiatrist and needed at least a 5 to get on her course. Approximately 1 year later not only did she get the grade she needed, she actually achieved a level 6. An amazing achievement for her as originally she was told she was only capable of sitting the foundation paper. I have a Higher level Teaching Assistant Qualification with a Maths Specialism. I also have an Open University Certificate in Mathematics. I am based in a SEN department and so have a lot of experience in this area. My interests include walking my dogs, particularly in the English Lake District, cycling and swimming. I enjoy a good book, particularly Detective crime ones and also enjoy cooking. I am experienced in teaching from years 7 to 11 (11 to 16 year olds) and have taught Pearson Edexel, AQA, WJEC and iGCSE.
