A bit about Thomas H

Young and enthusiastic Computing teacher. Currently working in Somerset at a State Secondary teaching Year 7-11 Computing. I have 4 GCSE groups and pride myself on planning engaging and effective lessons based on the latest pedagogy. KS3 Computing and GCSE Computer Science (currently teach OCR but good knowledge of both EdExcel and AQA too). I have a degree in Computing and a PGCE in Secondary Computing. My lessons usually involve some revisiting of previous topics followed by purposeful linking of prior learnt content to new content to be learned. Programming in particular takes a lot of practice so ensuring students make good progress through a mastery approach. I also utilise low stakes questioning for retrieval practise and development of knowledge schemas. I have only recently started tutoring. I am, however, an accomplished teacher with good GCSE results. I love the ever changing and developing world we live in. Computing is a broad subject from programming to the ethical applications of AI and big data collection. It’s imperative young people have a good understanding of how this modern world operates. I am engaging and interactive in my teaching approach. I encourage discussion and questioning around topics. If I don’t know the answer straight away I will always go and find out!
