A bit about Sayon

I completed my A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths, receiving A*s in all of them. I have also received 10 9s across all of my GCSEs, and have lots of little tips and tricks to help push students to reach their full potential at the very top grades. I am a current medicine student at Oxford University, and was successful in all my medicine applications to other top universities, e.g. Imperial College London. I will therefore be very happy to support any prospective medics with their medicine applications and provide guidance with entrance exams like the UCAT and BMAT having received excellent scores in both. I am also more than happy to provide advice with medical school interviews. I also did an EPQ comparing immunotherapy and chemotherapy in cancer treatment, and got an A* in that as well, so would also be happy to guide anyone with their EPQs. The key thing students love about my teaching style is that I focus on helping them develop a strong understanding of the fundamentals first and then build on that with tips and tricks tailored specifically to their exams. Exam boards often like to repeat certain patterns of questions, or like to look for certain key points in their answers, which I have identified from my own experience both revising and tutoring students for these exams. These tips help students ensure their understanding comes across clearly to the examiners to help secure the best grades. In terms of my teaching style, I really like ensuring a solid understanding of foundations, on top of which I help build exam technique through practice of exam questions. In terms of an understanding based approach, I really encourage students to ask questions about anything they are unsure about to help solidify a clear picture in their mind about a topic. I normally plan out my lessons by talking to the student and assessing their needs, i.e. what topics they are struggling to understand at school, if they have received any feedback from a test, etc. From there, I then teach the topic for the lesson, focusing on the areas that the student highlighted, and giving them plenty of time to take notes and ask any questions they may have. Then towards the end of the lesson, I quiz my student or ask them to explain back to me a part of the topic I taught. I also often set some exam questions on that topic for homework, helping ensure it is solidified in the student's mind. I will then mark these before the following lesson and follow up on revisiting the topics they have got incorrect. When going over these exam questions, I try to point out any specific points that I feel keep coming up in mark schemes, helping with their exam technique.
