A bit about Kirsty D

I’m a fun, friendly KS2 teacher with 7 years experience in the classroom. I have taught children with a range of needs - SEN all the way up to greater depth children. No challenge is too much! I love seeing that “lightbulb” moment when a child understands a tricky concept. I truly understand how learning can be tricky and completely emphasise that we all learn in different ways. (It took me until I was 22 to finally understand fractions properly so I completely appreciate it being hard sometimes!) I love showing my class new and different ways through manipulatives, pictures or even using known facts to get to the answer. Learning CAN be fun! KS2: maths, English - both reading, writing, phonics - science, geography, history etc. I have experience with teaching lessons aimed at ks1 to support children in ks2. I also specialise in making learning unique to every child and aiming the work to children's interests and abilities. I aim my lessons to my class needs and differentiate accordingly. I focus on ensuring there isn’t cognitive overload - learning needs to stick! Children will feel successful and we will focus each lesson on retrieving what we’ve learnt in the prior lesson. It's also important to remember that children generally require confidence in the subject they are having extra support with so this will be done to boost their self-esteem. I am brand new to tutoring, however my classroom experience supports my excitement and enthusiasm for teaching online. I love seeing children learn and understand a concept they’ve struggled with. I also love helping children who need that extra challenge to really push them to their best selves. Full of energy, enthusiasm. My students will probably describe me as fun, but fair. I teach children to believe that it’s ok to make mistakes: we’re all human after all! Helping children with their individual needs. Seeing that lightbulb moment come to life! Children should be excited to learn but also they can help me with things that they thrive with to boost their confidence. Progressivism: I strive to create a personalised learning experience for each student, allowing them to pursue their passions and grow at their own pace. Learning is to children’s interests and experiences. Children are most likely going to learn those tricky concepts if they’re enjoying what they are learning. Children finally understanding a variety of ways in maths. Maths is tricky for a lot of children, however we have worked our way through different strategies to see that moment click and feel success! I have a PGCE in primary teaching. I wanted a rewarding job that helped others. I had previously worked in admin and retail but needed something that was exciting and fulfilling: teacher is perfect as no one day is ever the same. I love hearing about children's day to day stories and also teaching them new things. Spending time with my family and dog. I enjoy exercising, seeing my friends, listening to music and shopping. Year 3, 4, 5 and 6
