A bit about Gabriella T

Hey, I’m Gabs and I've been tutoring English Literature and Drama for GCSE, A-Level and Degree students for 10 years. Exam boards include AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Cambridge and Pearson. My main specialism is teaching Shakespeare and poetry. In the last 5 years, I’ve worked as a Copywriter for two award-winning advertising firms, Ogilvy and McCann. So, not only can I help students get great grades, but I can help prep them for the professional workplace. While working in advertising, I really missed teaching full-time, so I decided to quit my job and make this my main focus. Education-wise, I attended Hillcrest Grammar School, Marple Sixth Form College and Salford University. In 2015, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature & Creative Writing, First Class Honours. In 2016, I was awarded The Vice Chancellor's Scholarship to complete a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing and I graduated with a Merit. Here's an article I wrote for Sherpa, "Writing a Great Essay in Six Simple Steps," which will give you an idea of my teaching style: https://sherpa-online.com/blog/read/writing-a-great-essay-in-six-simple-steps Literature and Drama are my main subjects. I’ve taught privately in the UK for 10+ years and I have a full DBS check with a 100% pass rate. My teaching style is friendly, fun and professional aimed at High School students, College and beyond. Lessons are tailored to you and we’ll touch on: - Creative writing - Close readings - Analysing prose texts - Analysing poetry - Shakespeare - Essay structuring, spelling, and grammar - Preparing presentations - Revising for exams - Personal assignments or home-work - Working on monologues - Mastering duologues - Character development Our lessons take place over for 60 minutes at a rate of £50 I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If 24 hours notice is not given, the lesson fee is still paid in full. One of the things I love about lesson time is watching students’ eyes light up when they grasp something new. It’s such a meaningful profession. What better way to spend my time than helping students learn about the most incredible texts that the world has ever known? I hope my classes stay with students throughout their lives. I’ve taught students from their first year of high school through to college and university—it’s been a huge pleasure to watch them grow. In 2016, I was awarded The Vice Chancellor's Scholarship to complete a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing and I graduated with a Merit. I also have a foundation degree in Psychology from The Minster Centre, London. This year I was awarded a Scholarship to study Acting at The American Academy of Television and Film. Outside of teaching, I love reading, acting, singing and playing guitar. The exam boards that I teach are Edexcel, Pearson and AQA. I’ve taught students from their first year of high school through to college, university and adult learners too—it’s been a huge pleasure to watch them grow. The question "how can I be of service to the world?" is something that chimes very deeply within me. I'm lucky because Literature and Drama always came easy. But I've taken that gift to the next level by studying these subjects for many years and now it's my superpower. So it's only right that I share this gift to help my students. My teaching style is compassionate, calm and playful—students love that I make the classwork totally relevant to their needs. My teaching style is compassionate, calm and playful—students love that I make the classwork totally relevant to their needs. I first started tutoring during my final year at University while studying my MA Degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, so that was around 10 years ago. I love teaching Literature and Drama because I love spending time with students exploring another writer's world. We discover things about their characters, we learn about what makes them tick and why they do what they do. Often it's a very self-reflective process and helps students understand people and themselves better. I started teaching one of my students in Year 10. Before I began teaching him, he attained average grades, but during my lessons with him he became an A* student and went on to do English Literature at A-Level, again scoring A* grades. Once he went to University, I began teaching his younger sister, so it was amazing to have that bond with this particular family over 5+ years. I believe our lives can be abundant with pleasure, enchantment and deep meaning. If only we could better connect with our feelings. If only we had the courage to speak our truth. If only we could cultivate a deep respect for ourselves. If only we could awaken to the power of our words—the devastating scars they can leave, but also, the incredibly uplifting and nourishing way that words can sculpt the landscape of our reality. All this is possible. By re-enchanting our lives through language and story we can remember and reclaim our own inner soulfulness and magic.
