A bit about Corinne B

I have an MA and BA in History from the University of Cambridge, I have a further MA in Creative and Life writing from Goldsmiths University. I am a qualified teacher, holding a QTS and PGCE from the University of Roehampton. My speciality is essay writing and analysis, across both History and English. As a published poet, I am able to share my love of poetry with students and take pride in making poetry more accessible and understandable through my lessons. I am adept at assisting with coursework and developing reading lists for success at Oxbridge interviews. As a Cambridge alumnus I maintain access to a wide group of journals and ebooks that I share with my students to develop their coursework to the highest possible level. My students love the way I understand where they're coming from, I get that essays aren't the most exciting things on the planet for many people and I'm always injecting humour and comparisons into my lessons to make sure that students can understand key concepts. I worked with a student who was diagnosed with dyslexia and who struggled with writing academically, feeling very lost in the GCSE course as there was so much reading to do and he didn't get enough 1-1 support in school lessons. Over the course of several years, we worked on decoding and analysing texts and strategies for time management and revision. Having someone to check in on his revision and to hold him accountable really helped, as well as having the opportunity to complete further revision questions. By the end of the tutoring, he had moved from a predicted C grade to an A and managed to get an A* in his GCSE English paper! My main source of pride was his change in attitude, from hating English lessons to enjoying them and engaging with the texts we studied.
