A bit about Kurtis J

Hi! I'm Kurtis. I graduated with an MSci in Biochemistry & a PGCE in Secondary Science. I have been teaching GCSE & A-Level Biology to 14 - 19 year olds for the past two years now. I have previous experience in tutoring, particularly delivering subject knowledge and tackling exam technique. I teach the AQA Biology specification currently, but have previous experience with EdExcel & OCR. In my current job, I teach KS4 (Years 10 & 11) and KS5 (Year 12). In my previous job, I also gained experience teaching all three sciences across KS3. I encourage a classroom culture of questioning & discussions. My students know that if they are unsure about a concept, exam questions, etc, that they can reach out to myself or other peers, without feeling embarrassed or judged. Additionally, being a Black & LGBT+ teacher, I strive to facilitate inclusive lessons where students are respected, represented and heard. I have a huge interest in all things Space, as well as simulation games, anthropology books and journalling. I also enjoy going to the gym, and travelling as much as I can!
