A bit about Ben S

My name is Ben. I have a joint honours degree in Sports Science and Mathematics, and have been a qualified mathematics teacher since 2015. I have worked as both a classroom teacher (including being head of Mathematics) and small-group tutor in England, China and Malaysia. I like to work with students on problems rather that talk at them, using a "model / your turn" approach to demonstrating concepts and an interactive whiteboard to provide an interesting and engaging learning environment. The "model / your turn" approach allows students to be shown solutions to problems in real time, helping to solidify their understanding and allowing them to see what they need to do at each stage and ask questions if necessary. Students are then provided with a similar problem to practice the method they have just seen with immediate feedback, before moving on to further practice questions or a slightly different problem. Outside of teaching I enjoy rowing and cycling, and working out at the gym. I also love to travel, and am always looking for a new adventure! I have a joint honours degree in Sports Science & Mathematics, and have also completed a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics. I have also completed a course in teaching English as a second language, and worked in different parts of Asia for 4 years, so I am comfortable working with students who speak English as an additional language.
