A bit about Ihsanur R

I am a Law student at Queen Mary University of London. I have been tutoring for one year in person and on online platforms. I tutor English Language and Literature for Primary, KS3 and GCSE levels, as well as 11+ English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning. My teaching philosophy is that no student learns the same. Whereas some students prefer to work closely together, others prefer lecture-style lessons. I guarantee that my lessons will always keep the student at focus, and cater to their learning style in the best way possible. I tutor English Language and Literature for all levels up to GCSE. I tutor the AQA exam board for both English Language and Literature. For English Literature, the texts I focus on are 'Macbeth', 'Jekyll and Hyde' and 'An Inspector Calls'. I have access to a range of exam-ready resources for these texts, grading 8s and 9s! I also tutor 11+ English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning. My teaching style is always focused around my students. I feel as if my students love that each lesson is tailor-made with them in mind, and I enjoy creating a range of resources to be able to support them to success. My lessons always start and end with discussion with my students. I like to break the ice and make friendly conversation before easing my students into the lesson. I find it a good way to open up for an interactive and engaging lesson! All lessons end with a period of self-reflection, where we talk about WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If). This is an important part of my teaching style, as I like encouraging my students to acknowledge their strengths and areas for improvement! To me, being a tutor is about enjoying the small victories with students. I always enjoy being able to share knowledge from my experience of studying English. Whether we study texts such as Macbeth, or practice exam technique and writing PETAL paragraphs, I always love the feeling of being able to help my students reach their full potential! I love being able to interact with my students on a regular basis, and often find that they have really insightful contributions to make to our lessons. As a tutor for over a year, I've been able to help ease students during the stress of exam season - I'm always happy to hear from students after exams, to let me know that they found our lessons beneficial! My lessons start with a welcome and an icebreaker, to ease my students into the lesson. We often make conversations about the students' hobbies; anything from sports to food! At the end of each lesson, I always ask my students whether they have a topic in mind for the next lesson. I use the time in between lessons to create and prepare the resources I need to deliver a great lesson. Before diving into the topic of the lesson, I like to briefly summarise and explain the topic. I stress to every student that questions are welcome at any point - there is no such thing as a silly question! The resources that I use for my lessons are either those which I have created myself or those which I have used myself for my English GCSEs. I find it important to be able to show a range of resources, whether it be model answers, worksheets or information banks! In all of my lessons, I will incorporate a method of practicing the topic. This will normally be comprehension tasks, past paper questions or worksheet questions. I always give the student the choice to take the lead, but I am more than happy to approach the work together! After giving it a go, we mark and assess the work together, and collectively reflect on the topic. I find it important to have a period of reflection at the end of all my lessons. My lessons end with me asking my students if they have a specific topic that they would like to practice next week. If they are not so sure, then I devise the next lesson based on the topic areas that I feel they could improve in. I also set homework (based on student preference), which will normally be a past paper question or a comprehension task. I am always happy to mark students' work throughout the week, and we cover my feedback in the next lesson!
