A bit about Nicky A

I am a 3rd Medical student with more than 5 years experience in tutoring! I have been tutoring since the start of my A-levels. In my Gap year I worked in Secondary schools as a Science and Maths tutor and helped many students understand science better and achieve the grades the needed. I have an AFHEA in teaching and looking forward to pursuing a MSc in Clinical education in the next few years. I am passionate about chemistry and found it the easiest subject! I break down each question and wont let any student leave my session without fully understanding the question :) I have always enjoyed teaching and helping my peers in difficult questions back in GCSE. I believe teaching and helping others helps you grow and understand the topic better as well. So I make sure I help every student in a way that they could one day be able to teach the topic to someone else! During my gap year I worked in a secondary school for a tutoring company called YIPIYAP that gave me the opportunity to work with students that had missed on teaching due to the pandemic. I also obtained my AFHEA certificate in Higher Education Teaching during my second year of studies at medical school. I am proud that all my students go on to achieve the grades they want for their UCAS applications. I help my students to learn to enjoy the subjects they are doing with me and make them feel comfortable in answering exam questions. Chemistry, Biology and Maths. I got 3 A* in my A-levels and would love to share my experience and knowledge with students to help them boost their grade. I am also happy to helps students with their medicine application or help prepare for any medical school interviews. A-levels, GCSE - All exam boards. I break down each topic into understandable "chunks" and after explaining each concept I make sure to follow it up with an example questions. The key to getting an A* in A-levels is to know the different questions types and the techniques of attempting to answer them. I make sure my students are familiar with the repetitive questions and help them learn how to solve those harder questions by encouraging them to improve their problem-solving techniques. For each student I devise a personalised past paper schedule and make sure each student sticks to the schedule in order to attempt all the exam questions before their upcoming exams. "cognitive Load Theory" (CLT). I am interested in learning new pedagogical theories and try to incorporate them in my teaching style. CLT emphasises that the learners memory can hold no more than 3-4 facts at any given point, hence I break down concepts into manageable "chunks" and reveal information one by one to ensure my students can retain the information given to them.
