A bit about Ope J

University : - Queen Mary University of London - Chemistry with Biochemistry BSc [First Class with Honours] - University of York - Green Chemistry and Sustainable Industrial Technology MSc [Merit] Prizes and Scholarships : Bridge Award Scholar (University of York 2015) I have been tutoring for a long time and tutoring has been a very important part of my life, so much so that I always tutored even around full-time jobs. Why? I am devoted to the idea that any student can be excellent with the right motivation, resources and a healthy appetite to succeed. I'm here to provide the first two! I have helped various students boost their confidence and achieve their goals. My students have come from all backgrounds and have ranged from Year 6 to 13. Most of my experience has come from preparing students for GCSEs, A-Level or IB exams. I have experience with all of England's exam boards and some international curricula also. I understand that students learn in various ways, so I try to structure my tutorials to suit individual needs. Generally however, I strive for a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and sometimes take an informal approach towards learning especially where the tougher concepts are concerned. Typically, my sessions last 55 minutes (85 minutes, if more time requested). I use an online whiteboard (classroom) that is fully interactive equipped with drawing, typing, document uploading functionality to provide a better experience than just using Zoom. You can also download the session notes for keeps. My method is to simplify confusing concepts using real-world examples my students can relate to, while reinforcing frequent revision. I encourage participation and thought-provoking discussion. I encourage my students to ask "why?" Each session of mine will end with practice questions you may find in an exam/test to reinforce your knowledge. I also regularly give out-of-class assignments so you can keep learning independently. Ultimately, my goal is to help you become a thinker and not a crammer, to understand the logic behind concepts and apply your knowledge in any exam scenario. I encourage personal study and revision outside of the sessions and will often give tips about how to maximise the time outside of the sessions after studying a bit more about your learning style. I tutor all the major UK exam boards (AQA, OCR, Edexcel...) at GCSE, IGCSE and A-Level. I also have experience teaching some international curricula as well I have taught Maths and Biology in the past, but now I am dedicated to tutoring just Chemistry. Of course, I could be tempted to tutor either of those in addition to Chemistry :)
