A bit about John

I am an experienced maths teacher and tutor, specialising in KS3 and KS4. I look for students strengths to develop them, their confidence and help them to achieve their potential. Having worked with all abilities, the one thing I know is that there is no such thing as a person that can't do maths! GCSE Maths from KS3 to KS4. Mixed ability including SEN. I don't have one way of explaining things, everyone is different and knowing that helps them. I like a student to identify and understand the goals of a tutorial, see how they have begun and then see how they have improved. From there, they should be keen to see the next step, and be confident to go further. I trained as a maths teacher after studying a psychology at university and having a year off doing a chefs course! After graduating, I volunteered as a teacher in Papua New Guinea for 3 years, then returned to teach in the UK. My first individual student was a friend's son, he was 13 and recently I was invited to his wedding after he graduated from university, now about to start a PHd. He'd be the first to admit he didn't know his times table when we started! It's that journey that I hope to share with everyone I tutor.
