A bit about Damien G

I teach all year groups from primary to GCSE. I also specialise in working with special educational needs, and I support a local SEN school with teaching maths to some of their students. Most schools that I have worked with use Edexcel as their exam board, however I am able to support across the range of boards if needed. I also offer teaching for Functional Skills from Entry level 1 to Level 2. When I begin teaching a new student I will look into their existing knowledge and work out a plan to deliver and build up the knowledge and confidence. Everybody learns in different ways, working mainly in SEN I have learned to adapt my teaching styles to each individual student, where one thing works for one, it may not work for another so I will find the methods that do work. A lesson that lasts for one hour will generally have the first 5-10 minutes will be looking through what we will be covering, followed by the learning, then finishing with 10-15 minutes of recap and looking at the following lesson details. I have been tutoring privately for about a year now, before that I worked in an SEN secondary college for just over 9 years as a maths intervention specialist. I teach to each individual students own style of learning, no two people learn the same way and to enable them to achieve and enjoy the subject at the same time, it is necessary to adapt the way they are presented any information about the given subject. I believe that maths is probably the most important subject (yes I am biased!) Teaching maths can be very interesting, there is a lot of variety involved, but the best time is when you see a student have that "Aha" moment, there is nothing more satisfying than knowing you have helped someone achieve. There are 2 camps when it comes to mathematics, you either love it or hate it, well I love it and I will help you to love it too!
