Sherpa's Summary

Rosie is a passionate tutor who uses a diversified range of teaching methods to support her students.

A bit about Rosie

I have a received a 2.1 undergraduate degree in BA Hons English Language and Linguistics, and have tutored for the last 3 years, which means I am the perfect candidate to bring passion, expertise, and a personalised approach to each tutoring session. During completing exams throughout my time in education, using key revision techniques helped me achieve the highest grades. My aim is to pass on my tips and knowledge to help others succeed. With help from revision timetables and fun revision, exam stress decreased. This helped me when applying to universities, as I received unconditional offers for all of my choices. I have experience tutoring KS2, KS3, and working as a Drama teaching assistant, I believe I have the skills to create a successful learning environment for students. My teaching style consists of keeping the students engaged through differentiated activities and personalised learning. Students have different ways of studying, and it is my job to centre teaching around their least understood topics. By understanding their unique strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles, I am able to tailor my lessons accordingly. I can help students improve grades and confidence by encouraging responsibility, offering positive praise, and inspiring them to enjoy learning as much as I enjoy teaching. I find the best learning techniques are repetitive learning, practise testing, and sparking imagination through elaborative interrogation. In my tutoring sessions, I prioritise establishing a comfortable and trusting relationship with every student. I believe that fun lessons equal learning more, therefore I try to make my lessons interesting. I begin my lessons with some short questions about topics we covered in previous lessons to confirm they've understood everything to their full extent, and then I begin the new topic. Throughout we will write exam style questions, complete short quizzes, and revise the content learnt in their lessons at school for extra benefits. Whether it is grammar, vocabulary, or essay writing, I ensure that my teaching approach is adaptable, focusing on the individual needs of each student, while ensuring the students ask questions throughout. My enthusiasm naturally spills over into my teaching, making me empathetic and patient in helping my students navigate the complexities of the subject. Nothing brings me greater joy than witnessing my student's growth and achievements. As a dedicated teacher, I am constantly amazed by my student's dedication, resilience, and unwavering enthusiasm to excel in English. It is their hard work that fuels my passion for what I do every day. But what truly sets my heart ablaze is the positive feedback I receive from each and every one of my students. The craft of teaching is an art, and just like any artist, feedback becomes the fuel that propels us forward. I draw immense pleasure from hearing kind words, witnessing progress, and witnessing the torch of knowledge ignite. Here are some reviews from parents and students from my past experience of tutoring, that can be found on my tutoring account on MyTutor: "I would highly recommend, Rosie! Her reliability, organisation, great subject knowledge, ability to put my son at ease, engaging teaching style, approachability, and thoroughness made her an exceptional tutor. She has made a significant positive impact on my son's learning journey, and I am so grateful for her dedication, commitment and boosting his confidence! Thank you." - Mon, Parent from Surrey. "Best tutor! Just received my A level results and achieved an A in English language with the help and encouragement of Rosie. Whilst Rosie gave me the knowledge and confidence with topics, she also made me laugh with stories giving me further research for my essays that she had learnt whilst studying at university that further fuelled my ambition to achieve and work my hardest! English at A level scared me at first but it became one of my favourites. Thank you." - Christina, Student from Manchester. "Organised, knowledgable and making huge difference to my sons progress. Grateful to have found her. Thank you so much Rosie for all you do to support him." - Maria, Parent from Ashford. There are several reasons why I love teaching English, from sharing my passion for the language, to making a difference in people's lives. By showing the relevance and importance of English in lives, it means that I am inspiring and motivating students, along with equipping students with language skills that will shape their life. Also, witnessing a student go from struggling with English to becoming proficient and confident in the subject and their abilities is the greatest source of joy for myself. English is a creative, meaningful, and extremely important subject, and I am grateful to be able to help make positive differences to students.
