A bit about Margaret O

I obtained my degree in Maths & Statistics in 2018 and I have been teaching Maths and/or Statistics for ages 11 to 18 for approximately 5 years, via private tutoring and classroom teaching. I ensure that students understand the basics and therefore they are able to retain their new knowledge more successfully. I specialise in KS2, KS3 & KS4 Maths. Having my degree in Maths and Statistics has made me a specialist in this field and subject. Initially we'll discuss what we are going to cover, moving into the fundamental skills needed to achieve that goal. First and Foremost we need to ensure we are going through the correct syllabus, so I will need to know what board your school is teaching. Trying some examples together, include workings out needed to gain maximum marks in exams and then the student will try some by themselves. I like to leave the student with some exercises to try themselves before our next session. I've been tutoring and teaching Maths for the last 7 years. I began tutoring in 2016 and have continued my journey gaining my degree; my Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) and my Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) one after the other; I have been teaching ever since. The appreciation and satisfaction gained from understand something they didn't know before. Being able to replicate the work for themselves and be happy about it is always a joy to see. My teaching style is very structured and allows for long-term retention, if it is taken advantage of. Easier questions are used to teach, and more worded questions are our final goal as this is how questions come to us when tested. Getting to know each student and seeing how they progress over time as we are working very closely together. Consistency is key! There are no surprises, they know what to expect and if they don't understand they are happy to tell me and we work through it together without any judgement. We don't know it, yet! Having students who struggle with the subject become enthused about what they can achieve as they gain confidence within Maths. I hold a Degree in Mathematics and Statistics as well as Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) Qualification and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE). Watching students gain knowledge they previously didn't have. I love doing a lot of creative things, such as singing, drawing and painting. I am able to teach the more common exams boards Edexcel, AQA and OCR. I am able to teach years 7 to 11.
