A bit about Nicola K

My first degree is a BA (Hons) in Historical and Cultural Studies which is basically Literature and History. This means that I really understand context in literature and language and enjoy sharing that with students. My teaching qualifications are PGCE with QTS so I have lots of experience (20 years) in working with classes and individual students. Teaching is my second career and it was one of the best decisions I ever made! l love to work with students to help them develop confidence and independence in their learning. It can impact them in the most incredible ways as they begin to understand how to communicate their thinking persuasively and articulately! I have taught all of the major exam boards for English Language and Literature and understand how to guide and focus teaching and learning so it is appropriate for the syllabus being studied. I have also been an examiner for AQA and am currently an examiner for Pearson Edexcel. My specialist age groups for teaching are KS3, KS4 and KS5 (so ages 11-18). I’m able to break the subject down into straightforward parts and then work with students on how to combine them for success. This approach has helped students achieve success not just in grades, but in their confidence in tackling the subject independently.
