A bit about Jenni G

Hello, my name is Jenni. I am a primary school teacher, based in east Derbyshire, who has experience in the classroom and with outdoor learning. I am known for being a nurturing teacher and for creating a calm, happy and positive learning environment for the children in my class and tutor groups. My aim in to get children excited for their learning so I am always adapting lessons to suit their interests and needs. As well as engaging my students, I also make sure that I plan inclusive lessons that are based on an individual’s needs and requirements. I have experience of teaching both KS1 and KS2. I would consider reading, phonics, writing and maths to be my specialist areas, however, I am experienced at teaching the whole Primary curriculum, including science, french, geography and history. Most recently, I have worked in a SEND school which took in children and young adults from the ages of 2 - 19. This has taught me invaluable skills in how children with SEND learn and how best to cater for their learning. I have experience in working with children whom have autism, ADHD, global delay and Down Syndrome. I believe that every child should have the right to an eduction that is accessible, fun and tailored to them, no matter what their ability is. I have a proven track record of helping children make excellent progress in their learning. I have tutored small intervention groups in schools with great success and lead phonics and reading break out groups. My lessons are taught using a range of learning styles including, discussions, quizzes, games, practical learning and pictorial methods as well as conventional learning. This allows children to learn in a variety of different ways and access learning in a way that is suitable and fun for them. Each lesson is tailored to the individual whom I'm tutoring and their needs. At the end of each lesson I always have a quick conversation with the child and ask them what they'd like help with next or if there is currently any work that they are finding tricky. From this information I then plan the next lesson. If the child is unable to tell me then I always try and have a conversation with the adult or guardian to get the same kind of information. I love being a tutor because it allows me to provide tailored support on a 1:1 basis with each child. Seeing the growth from each lesson and seeing the child's confidence grow when they are realise that they are able to do something they previously thought was impossible is one of the best feelings, for both me as a tutor and for them as a student. - I am a qualified Primary School Teacher and have an Enhanced DBS. - I am able to use conversational Makaton. - I have up to date knowledge on the Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation and in safeguarding. - I have a degree in BSc. Marine Biology/Zoology (Joint honours), 3 A-Levels and 10 GCSEs.
