A bit about Rose P

I am a qualified primary school teacher with a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, 9 years of experience teaching in schools from nursery to Year 6, and 14 years of experience as a private tutor with students from age 5 to 21. I have a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge; my degree focused on biology and chemistry. My PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) is from the University of Nottingham and I hold Qualified Teacher Status. I have refreshed and added to my knowledge through study at the Open University, where I gained a Certificate in Contemporary Science and also studied child development. Before university, I gained A-grade A-levels in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and General Studies, and 9 GCSEs (all grade A*). I love being able to spend time focusing on an individual student, being able to create lessons that precisely fit their needs and seeing how much progress they make. Many of my students continue having lessons with me for years and I love to see how they develop and achieve: I have taught one student for 15 years, right up to adulthood. I'm always positive, patient and encouraging. I plan tailored lessons for all of my students, which they enjoy because the lesson precisely meets their needs and allows them to succeed. My students love it when I include games that are carefully created to help them progress with a specific learning objective. They also enjoy being able to come to me with a topic they've found difficult at school because I break it down into small, achievable steps and make it easy to understand and remember; they get a real confidence boost when they master a topic that they previously struggled with. My core specialism is in English and Maths across all primary levels, from Foundation Stage to Year 6. I also have extensive experience in tutoring at the secondary level for Key Stages 3 and 4, including GCSE preparation. I am experienced in tutoring students with a wide range of abilities, including high-achieving or gifted students looking to earn top grades. Many of my tutoring students over the years have had special educational needs, including dyslexia, moderate and severe learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder, ADHD, developmental language disorder and developmental coordination disorder (dyspraxia). I teach English, Maths and Science for Foundation Stage to Year 9 students and Biology to GCSE (Year 10 and 11) students, covering all exam boards. A few of the many successes I am especially proud of are: - A student I tutored from the age of 8 up to 18 in English, Maths and Science. With my help, she achieved excellent grades in her GCSEs and A-levels and is now in the final year of her Psychology degree. - A student with autism whom I helped prepare for GCSE Science and also taught parts of the Biology A-level curriculum not included in his college course in preparation for university. He is now thriving in the second year of his university studies in Animal Sciences. - A Foundation Stage student (aged 4-5) whom I homeschooled for a year during the pandemic. Although I only had 4 1/2 hours teaching time a week with him, when returning to school to begin Year 1, he was identified by his new teacher as having already achieved many of the Year 1 objectives and as one of the highest-achieving students in the class.
