A bit about Em

I have a First Class degree in English and Philosophy, with an interest (and an A at A-level in Classics). I have also taught English, Maths, Geography and EPQ for GCSE students and below. Having taught several students with dyslexia and attention deficiency disorders, I use a variety of teaching styles. I am able to cater to each individual student by testing multiple approaches and adapting my teaching program to the method which they respond best to. I'm a great believer in balancing academic studies with other activities which enhance student's mental and physical well-being. I personally love sport and I am an avid gym girl, skier and I play badminton every week. I also love music, both to listen to and to play and sing myself. I really enjoy learning; I am curious to my core and make a conscious effort to continue my own education every day. My favourite thing about being a tutor is seeing this excitement to learn grow in my students! Everyone is different and sometimes when mainstream styles of teaching aren't particularly effective for a student, I find that they become disheartened. Often I hear students state that they 'just aren't very school smart' or just really dislike education in general. This mindset stops them from wanting to learn at all. The satisfaction I get from shifting that mindset by utilising a range of teaching methods, personalised to each student, and watching them grow to appreciate and enjoy subjects that they previously dreaded is by far the best part of the job for me!
