A bit about George H

I became a teacher in September 2000, after many years working in the private sector as an industrial chemist \ flavourist. I was an assistant headteacher, head of science and head of year. Becoming a teacher was the best career move I made, working with young people is a joy and an honour, supporting them to achieve what they are capable of and empowering them with confidence and a can do attitude. I have been a 1-1 tutor since January 2019. The majority of that tutoring has been online. GCSE Chemistry, Biology and Physics KS3 Science. There is no point delivering a lesson the student cannot access. To succeed requires hard work, there is no point looking for short cuts. I only set targets that students can reach, based on the abilities of the student But they need to believe they can do it. Iam there to facilitate learning I must be prepared and be shown to be prepared to set an example for the student eg be on time, dressed appropriately, ready to work. The exam boards I teach are AQA, EDEXCEL, OCR and IB. The year groups are 7-11 Building up a relationship with your student. The time I able to invest with the individual student. 1:1 allows me to differentiate and adapt the lesson quickly if the student is struggling. Seeing that young person develop in front of your eyes. The instant feedback and that light bulb moment Science will have the biggest influence on young people as they go through their lives. Global warming, air pollution, water pollution, genetically modified foods, advances in medical procedures and drugs, communication technologies, transport. Informing and educating young people will help them to understand the changes in the World they live in and to enable them to make informed decisions My teaching style will vary to suit the tutee, but will be usually based on the following. The lesson will begin with a series of exam questions to gauge understanding. From that we will fill the gaps. The lesson will be in bite size chunks of content mixed with questions either verbal or written to monitor understanding. The lesson can be changed very quickly if the student is finding the work is not stretching them enough. Some sessions will be on exam technique. Marks are lost through not reading the question correctly, not answering extended questions fully and not interpretating data ,reading and drawing graphs incorrectly. From my experience up to 10% of marks are lost these ways. Definitely, the difference between a higher and lower grade. The lesson will finish with a either a quiz, odd one out pictures, pictionary , what is the answer if this is the question, as examples. My teaching style is also very friendly and approachable approachable, to create a learning environment to help you get the grades you deserve
