A bit about Diane

My primary teaching experience and NTP tutoring role have shown me just how important it is to build confidence whilst supporting each child in developing their maths and English skills. I have gained so much joy from seeing a child grow in their confidence and belief that "I can do this!" I adapt my lessons to suit the pace of the child so they can achieve success. I love to see my students develop a love for learning. My specialities are: KS1 and KS2 maths skills. KS1 and KS2 English skills including phonics, reading/comprehension skills, grammar and spellings. 11+ preparation I have been working as a National Government Tutor for two years in our local school (previously working in our local prep school as class teacher/Deputy Headteacher). During the last two years I discovered working with children in small groups or 1:1 on specific maths and English skills allowed the children to learn and develop at their own pace which great success. It is a wonderful opportunity to work alongside a child in a 1:1 situation adapting each session to suit the child enabling confidence to grow and progress to be made. My lessons start with helping the student to relax and get ready to learn. This is achieved with a quick chat about the previous week, positive learning steps achieved and any struggles they would like support with. Then we look at our learning objectives for the session (which can be adapted to suit the student). Next a discussion/demonstration of the learning followed by practising what has been taught. After this, working on a task/s with discussion and support. Finishing with a self evaluation by the student on what went well, what needs improving next time. Games may be played, videos watched, fun discussions : a variety of different resources used to engage the student and help the student achieve. Being a tutor allows me the best of teaching - actually making a difference to a child's learning through building up their confidence, helping them to enjoy learning, supporting them through their learning struggles and giving them 100 per cent attention. I have gained so much joy when a child realises they can achieve success where before they could only see failure. It has been the greatest decision I made to dedicate myself to tutoring children 1:1.
