A bit about Nick M

I specialise in Oxbridge Engineering admissions: this includes exam/interview preparation, mock interviews, personal statement support, revision of course material, or anything else that would be helpful. I also tutor students for general Maths/Physics support at IB or A-level. My particular focus is teaching a variety of problem-solving techniques, essential for my students to approach difficult or unfamiliar problems with confidence. My teaching style is highly flexible; I adapt my lessons to suit my students' academic needs and learning styles. For students applying to Oxbridge Engineering, we will tend to have a few sessions each of: personal statement support, Maths/Physics course material revision, entrance exam preparation, and interview preparation. Hi! I'm Nick, an Engineering graduate from Queens' College, Cambridge. I am a part time private tutor, with particular experience in getting students offers for Engineering at Oxbridge. My teaching style focuses on showing students new ways to solve difficult problems, and new techniques to approach unfamiliar questions. This approach is informed by my considerable experience in problem-solving techniques, in both my formal education and my personal endeavours, including numerous Maths and Science competitions throughout my education. I am a friendly and enthusiastic tutor, with a genuine passion for all things Maths and Science. In both my formal education and my free time, I have developed a deep understanding of a wide range of topics in Maths, Science, and Engineering. This allows me to put the course material in context for my students, giving them a more comprehensive understanding. Ultimately, every student is different, and I tailor my lessons to each student's academic needs and learning style. More on my background: I graduated in Engineering from Queens' College, Cambridge in 2023 with a 2.1, and from an IB school in Hong Kong in 2019 with a 43/45. I received an offer from all 5 UCAS courses I applied for: Cambridge Engineering, and both Mechanical and Chemical Engineering at both UCL and Imperial. Apart from Maths, I enjoy hiking, cooking, and learning languages. Above all, my lessons are approachable and interactive. I find it important to have an informal atmosphere to my teaching, allowing students the confidence to suggest ideas and work through problems without fear of judgement. Interactivity is another key feature of my lessons: many of my lessons involve posing problems to my students and seeing how they approach them, and I am careful to give them space to experiment and learn, instead of revealing the answer quickly.
