A bit about Gerard A

I specialize in several areas related to the English language. Firstly, English literature and language, especially tailored to the GCSE curriculum. I have a strong track record in assisting students with their GCSE exam preparation, ensuring they understand critical texts and can effectively analyse and respond to them. Additionally, I have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. This expertise not only helps students aiming for exam success but also those wanting to hone their general linguistic abilities. Lastly,I have many years experience teaching English to non-native speakers, catering to various proficiency levels and adjusting my methods to meet individual needs. Whether you're aiming for academic excellence or seeking to become more fluent in English, my specializations are designed to support your goals. I'm from Bedford, Bedfordshire, and I have a deep passion for English Language and Literature. I've had the privilege of teaching learners at all levels, and one of my strengths is my ability to adapt to different learning styles and abilities. My teaching experience extends both within England and abroad, where I've taught English to non-native speakers. This diverse exposure has enriched my teaching approach, allowing me to better understand the challenges learners face. Additionally, I've contributed to the educational community by publishing grammar materials on platforms like TES. Sharing my knowledge and resources with educators and learners has been incredibly rewarding. In essence, my background in English, adaptability in teaching, international experience, and contributions to educational resources make me a dedicated and passionate educator. I'm excited to continue helping others achieve their language learning goals. Each one-hour session follows a four-part structure: Review or Task Discussion (15 mins): We start by revisiting the previous session's content or discussing the current task, setting the context, tone, and writing purpose. Planning and Structuring (15 mins): We outline the response, deciding on key points, paragraph structure, and ensuring a coherent flow in line with the writing style and purpose. Writing (15 mins): We compose the response, following the outlined structure, adhering to guidelines, and focusing on clarity and conciseness. Review and Improvement (15 mins): We proofread for errors, check facts, and ensure coherence. Any needed revisions are discussed, along with strategies for future improvement. These sessions aim to not only address immediate writing tasks but also foster ongoing skill development. I have been tutoring for several years, alongside my career teaching in school. During this time, I have had the opportunity to work with various individuals and groups, both in the UK and abroad. My tutoring experience has been quite diverse, as I've been involved in different types of programs. I have worked at summer schools that focus on exam preparation, where students aim to develop strategies for their exams. Additionally, I've been part of intervention and support groups, helping students who may need additional assistance to catch up or improve in their studies. I've also worked with foreign language students, assisting them in improving their language skills. Overall, my tutoring journey has been enriching, allowing me to work with a wide range of students and adapt to their unique needs and goals.
