A bit about Cat B

English, Music, Life Skills, and Humanities. Understanding, enthusiasm, a broad knowledge, curricular knowledge and a sense of humour is what I need to successfully deliver these subjects. I’ve taught each subject in mainstream, SEN and private schools. A can-do attitude! Both from myself and my students. My students will not develop enthusiasm for the subject if I am not enthusiastic while teaching it. I pride myself on being attentive and dynamic simultaneously. Reading (obviously!), storm chasing, composing film music, playing classical guitar and piano. I plan to go storm chasing in the mid-west of America in 2024. From 4 years old to 20 years old: from phonics to Shakespeare! I’ve taught many exam boards including AQA, OCR and Pearson. I have enjoyed helping students achieve their SATS, Functional Skills and GCSE goals whilst enabling them to develop a growing appreciation for the subject. I always begin with a 5 minute starter activity- not necessarily subject specific, but an activity to 'switch the brain on!'. This could be word association, a quick debate or memory games. For older students, it could be an Anagram game, 'Odd One Out' or 'Would You Rather?'. The main part of the lesson will be tailored to the 'area of improvement' the student needs help with, their interest in the subject, and going over the aspects of the session that the student needs clarifying. The lesson ends with an activity to help both student and tutor determine goals and targets for the next session.
