A bit about Sophie B

Hi My name is Sophie. I have A Levels In English Language & Literature, a BA (hons) in English and an MSC in Psycho-Social Studies. I have certificates in TEFL Teaching and in Training Trainers. I received professional training in teaching GCSE and have a professional career that has involved having an understanding of different learning styles, and of SEN and Neuro-divergency. I love working with new students and find the student-teacher relationship to be really important. I am able to motivate, encourage and help people feel at ease. The main goal is always how best you can achieve your goals, improve your skills and hopefully enjoy the process! I love meeting new students and being able to identify goals, skills, strengths, interests and areas for development together. I really enjoy the process from meeting students for the first time, and seeing how confidence, skill and knowledge grows. I really enjoy being able to help students with their learning objectives. I am always supportive and encouraging but will also challenge you to do the best that you can. I am consistently reviewed as being kind, patient, warm and fun. I tend to be receptive to what a student responds well to and then this informs how I will prepare materials or pitch a lesson. I am motivating and encouraging and determined. I will ensure adequate learning by trying different strategies if it is needed by the student. Students tend to enjoy my classes as they are productive, supportive and interesting. I do like to check in with students as to what works best for them and encourage a space which feels safe in which to try things out and ask questions. I specialise in GCSE, A Level & BA (Hons) English Literature & Language. I am very good at preparing students for the maximum marks they can achieve in an exam.I am excellent at helping students to fine tune their essay writing skills, organise their thinking, understand theory and text and enjoy the various aspects of English Language use. Some people decide to have tutors for motivation to excel in a subject that they love, others have tutors as they need the extra help. I specialise in enabling learners to feel safe and comfortable so they can really achieve their potential in the subject. I also specialise in teaching ESL and tutoring for IELTS. I have had many successes with teaching and it is always a joy to watch a person´s learning journey positively transform, or someone achieve the goal that they are aiming for. Over recent years, I tutored someone through an A Level access course in Humanities and then through a BA (Hons) in English for which she received a First. She then decided to do an MA and I continued as her tutor when she was submitting written work. She went from E´s and F´s in her GCSE´s to getting a Distinction in her MA at Goldsmith University. This particular student had a diagnosis of ADHD and so it was often very difficult for her to organise and structure her thinking. She could also experience overwhelm. We worked on strategies to support her with this. I have many interests outside of teaching and I think this has helped me be a good tutor as I am interested in the passions and inspirations of my students. I love to travel and have visited and lived in many different countries. I love to get to know about other cultures and visit art galleries and museums. I love music and dancing. I love to read both contemporary fiction and I am interested in self-development. I have an MSC in Psycho-Social Studies and so am interested in aspects of Psychology and Sociology. I love watching students improve and I absolutely adore working with students who respond well with me whereas previously they have internalised negative experiences with the subject. I always feel like my students go away having learnt something and consistently this is demonstrated in the improvements they make in the homework after. i feel both excited and humbled that they take onboard what I say and use it correctly! We tend to work in away that´s most hopefully for the student. Most like to know what they did well, and can improve for homework and then we concentrate on a particular topic -particularly for the exam. I have students that are comfortable asking me questions.
