A bit about Laura W

I have over 20 years teaching experience within a variety of settings. For the first 18 years of my career I specialised teaching English literature and language. I have taught students from Year 5 focusing on literacy skills and 11+ exam, through to GCSE and onto to A-levels. I am an exam marker for AQA English Literature and Language. For the last four years I have devoted my practice to helping students with SEN, mainly Autism, to access education. My teaching style varies depending on the student's individual needs and i often use a hybrid approach- coaching, facilitating and demonstrating. I have been an online tutor for the last 10 years and have helped students achieve their goals. I am very proud of how my students have progressed and look forward to helping others. I am passionate about English, I love language and communication but my real passion is literature and poetry. I delight in seeing young people find enjoyment in studying English and able to analyse fiction and nonfiction. I have a degree and English and a PGCE in Secondary English. Over the last three years I have worked at a special school and specialised in working with ASD students. I pride myself on being able to communicate clearly and help students develop their skills. I am reliable, patient and able to make English accessible. I am very encouraging and I pride myself on facilitating and enabling students to engage, understand and succeed.
